The bright red building on 1020 Ocean Street in Santa Cruz known as Marianne’s Ice Cream was founded in 1947.
Named after two sisters, Mary and Annie Becker, Sam Lieberman bought the ice cream business in 1958.
Since then, Sam and his wife Dorothy, have turned Marianne’s Ice Cream into a destination spot for those in search of ice cream perfection.
Starting out with only 13 flavors, Sam created 100 flavors by attending local conferences and swapping recipes and advice from others in the business. The shop boasts 75 flavors daily, including the famous “1020,” named after its location on 1020 Ocean Street. Other flavors include Butter Brickle (Sam’s favorite), Rum Raisin, Chocolate Ripple, Macapuno, and Horchata.
At Marianne’s Ice Cream there is bound to be a flavor to tickle your taste buds. View a list of Marianne’s flavors here.
Why We Started LoveMariannes.com
We love Marianne’s Ice Cream, instant fans from the first bite, and there were no resources online about this delicious specialty ice cream. So we started a fan site and online resource in 2008 and having a blast ever since.
